History

Ingrams History

John Ingram, born and raised in Cornwall, was a time served Marine engineer, spending his war years on BP tankers carrying aircraft fuel all around the world. On leaving the Merchant Navy as a Chief Engineer in the late 1940’s, John was employed as a Principal Engineer within the UK Gas industry and his duties included overseeing of the building of the new Plymouth Gas Works in the mid 1950’s. Eventually, the Ingram family relocated from the West Country to Cheshire around the early 1960’s, after John took a job as a Sales Engineer for the Blackstone engine range.

After a very successful period with Blackstone’s, John decided to go it alone and became a Manufacturers agent for a large valve company and R.A Lister who manufactured small generators up to 120 kVA, later becoming part of Hawker Siddeley Power Plant.

Ingrams History

In June 1972 he founded INGRAM INSTALLATIONS LIMITED and became a distributor for what became Lister Diesels, still selling generating sets. A few years later AUTODIESELS was added as a major supplier of larger generating sets, which in time would be replaced by Atlanta Generators.

Kingsley Ingram. MD of Ingram Installations.

Kingsley joined INGRAM INSTALLATIONS Ltd in mid-1978 as an engineer carrying out the installations and commissioning. He later moved into the quotations and projects office to work with suppliers and clients.

Kingsley’s background is in engine building, with him completing a four-year diesel engineering apprenticeship at Mirrlees Blackstone age 20. In this time he had worked in several areas, such as, initially working his way through all of the shop floor departments, engine sub-assembly and engine test department. Following his apprenticeship, he joined the tendering department at Mirrlees, in which he began to do quotations for the manufacture, supply and installation of their engine range.

In 1994 Kingsley re-joined INGRAM INSTALLATIONS after successfully creating and running this own venture. Kingsley took control of the company after John stepped down in 1999 at the very impressive age of 79. After taking the reins, Kingsley has taken Ingrams to new heights and has expanded the company to a very successful multi-million-pound business.

In January 2014 Ingram Installations Ltd were invited to become the first UK Premier Dealer for the Generator company, HIMOINSA, a Spanish manufacturer. HIMOIMNSA offer a range of great quality European generator sets. We do also offer other manufacturers, which gives us a wide range, large manufacturers stock availability - meaning shorter delivery times, and superior choice of products which many other companies simply cannot compete with.
